Nearly 15,000 power outages are currently reported in Maine as a result
of a wind storm today with gusts reaching over 45 mph. At the peak
early this afternoon, 18,313 customers of Central Maine Power were
without power.
More than 70,000 power outages have been reported throughout northern New
England today. Most were in New Hampshire.
Some outages started Friday night as an offshore nor’easter brought the first heavy snow of
the season to the White Mountains. Mount Washington, Crawford Notch and
other sites reported at least 10 inches.
Although 3 to 4 inches of snow fell in the mountains of western
Maine, the power outages in Maine were mostly due to strong winds,
according to CMP.
In Vermont, Central Vermont Public Service reported about 2,000 outages,
mostly scattered.
In Maine, the following CMP service areas are now experiencing power
outages: Skowhegan (3,100 customers); Farmington (2,700 customers);
Brunswick (2,300 customers); Bridgton (1,775 customers); Alfred (1,300
customers); Portland (1,280 customers); Augusta (900 customers); Lewiston
