6:15 p.m. - UPDATED WITH DRIVER INFORMATION
Maine State Police say the driver of a car that flipped over and hit another vehicle on Interstate 295 near Cumberland is dead.
The accident occurred around 1:10 p.m. when a red Subaru driven by Rosalie Muce, 32, of Portland, rear-ended a van driven by Larry Milligan, 55, of Buxton, in the southbound lane of traffic, according to Trooper Marvin Hinkley.
The accident rolled over both vehicles, sending the van into the median and the Subaru into the northbound lane of the interstate, Hinkley reported. Muce was ejected from the car, police said. Milligan was treated and released at the scene of the accident.
Cars were backed up for several hours as police closed down both lanes for a period. Hinkley said police are still determining the cause of the accident.
Maine State Police are on the scene of a crash on Interstate 295 northbound.
The crash happened around 1:15 p.m.
Northbound traffic is being routed off the interstate at Exit 10 onto Bucknam Road in Falmouth. Southbound traffic is being diverted at Exit 16 in Yarmouth.
