FARMINGTON - The University of Maine at Farmington Sustainable Campus Coalition is hosting a community meeting at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 7, in North Dining Hall-C of the Olsen Student Center to brainstorm ideas for actions that the Farmington community can take on International Day for Climate Action on October 24. Members of the community are invited to participate in this collaborative process to create a plan of action to raise awareness of the global climate crisis and possible solutions. Communities around the world will be staging actions on October 24, including bike rides, hikes, concerts, festivals, tree plantings, art works, and other activities to raise public awareness of the growing threat of climate change. Sponsored by the international environmental organization, 350.org, which was co-founded by environmentalist Bill McKibben, who spoke at UMF in March, the activities are designed to create awareness that carbon in the atmosphere should not exceed 350 parts per million if we want to ensure that the planet remains suited to the well-being of the life currently on earth.
