TABOR backers concede defeat

SOUTH PORTLAND -- The supporters of the Taxpayer Bill of Rights conceded defeat at 10:40 p.m. at the Merry Manor in South Portland.

The group's chairman, David Crocker, attributed the defeat to the fact that they were outspent and "the message from our opponents was one of fear, and fear is a difficult emotion to overcome."

Crocker said opponents used this time of great economic uncertainty to defeat their campaign to limit government spending.
