State makes 2 area hospitals 'preferred'

AUGUSTA -- The state has returned two central Maine hospitals to its list of preferred health care providers.

MaineGeneral Health, with hospital campuses in Augusta and Waterville, and Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan recently earned the preferred ranking from the state after stints without the preferential status.

The change allows state employees and others with health insurance through the state to skip copayments on inpatient and outpatient surgery services at the hospitals.

In central Maine, MaineGeneral and Redington-Fairview join Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, Inland Hospital in Waterville and Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield on the preferred hospital list.

The state Division of Employee Health and Benefits released the updated list on August 1. The office reviews that list every six months.
