Tim Belcher, executive director of the Maine State Employees Association, resigned Thursday night after 20 years with the organization.

Belcher, 54, a lawyer, had served as executive director since June 2005 and held other positions with the union prior to that. He said he has several other career options, but has not yet decided on a new job.

In a statement released by the union, which represents about 10,000 state workers, MSEA President Bruce Hodsdon said Belcher will be "sorely missed."

"However, the board of directors accepted Belcher's belief that after 20 years, it was time for a change," the statement said.
