Skowhegan girls win KVAC A title

AUGUSTA — Whitney Jones scored 12 points and Mackenzie Smith returned from a four-game absence with nine points and 12 rebounds to lead the Skowhegan Area High School girls basketball team past Edward Little 48-41 in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference championship game Monday night.

The Indians (18-0), who open the Eastern A tournament Friday against No. 8 Oxford Hills, led 10-0 and never looked back.

Edward Little (13-5) won last season’s KVAC A game 48-46 over Skowhegan after the Red Eddies, too, jumped out to a 10-0 lead.

Ashlee Arnold paced EL with a game-high 19 points.
