Sentencing due in drugs-for-sex case

AUGUSTA -- A former doctor's assistant is to be sentenced in Superior Court in Bath this week in a pills-for-sex case that brought convictions this summer.

Richard Brackett, now of Gardiner, is to be sentenced Wednesday for trafficking of scheduled drugs, four counts of violation of privacy and engaging a prostitute.

Testimony presented at his jury trial in June showed Brackett offered drugs to a female patient in exchange for sex. The privacy charge stemmed from having four hidden cameras to watch renters in an apartment building in Boothbay Harbor without their knowledge.

The offenses occurred in 2005 and 2006 while Brackett was employed at the Urgent Care Medical Clinic in Boothbay Harbor. Brackett agreed to the permanent revocation of his medical license.
