Report due on replacing York turnpike plaza

PORTLAND -- Engineers will present a report this week on replacing the aging York plaza on the Maine Turnpike with a modern facility.

The report will be presented at Maine Turnpike Authority headquarters in Portland on Thursday.

Built in 1969, the turnpike's southernmost plaza is now 15 years beyond its structural lifespan and its roadway approaches are steadily sinking into surrounding wetlands. The authority wants a replacement facility that would allow E-ZPass users to pay tolls by passing beneath a sensor at 55-65 mph.

The report was done by the firm HNTB.

Michael- WTF are you

Michael-

WTF are you smoking?  The Turnpike Authority has NOTHING to do with state funding, they are self-funded through the tolls the collect...

I hope TABOR loses tomorrow, which it will.  We have enough bad ideas in circulation already, we don't need more...

The MTA is self-funded

The MTA is self-funded through tolls, and has nothing to do with the state government's DOT, and would be completely unaffected by TABOR. Learn to know the difference between a turnpike authority and a state agency before you voice your opinion.

This is an outrage! in a time

This is an outrage! in a time when the state budget is in shambles, the country is in a ressesion, people are out of work revenew is down, these clowns want a new toll plaza?

Even the thought is insane. If they sooooo much money now that they have raised every toll in the state then this money needs to be used to cut the gas tax, of cover the budget shortfall, or better yet go towards K-12 education.

This is why we need to have TABOR now. This is the same fiscal irresponibilty that payed over 100,000 dollors for some nice painings in one of the rest areas.

This state gov needs to be put in check NOW!!!
