The man killed in a fiery crash following a high-speed chase Thursday was a Portland man who had no license and was recently released from prison, police said.
The State Medical Examiner today identified the man as Luis Andrades-Garcia, 35.
Andrades-Garcia was driving north on the Maine Turnpike in a car he borrowed from a friend in Massachusetts when he passed a State Police cruiser in Auburn. Police had received reports of an erratic motorist.
When the officer tried to pull him over, Andrades-Garcia sped off reaching 100 mph. The car hit a guard rail and the rear of a tractor trailer truck passing through a construction zone in Lewiston. It flipped over and caught fire, and Andrades-Garcia was killed, police said.
The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.
Police said Andrades-Garcia recently served time in the Maine Correctional Center in Windham for a drug conviction.
