STANDISH — State police continued to retrieve items for analysis from the Standish home where a man was beaten and left in critical condition Sunday and his wife was shot in the abdomen. Family members have told state police detectives that Jeffrey Dolloff’s condition has seen some improvement. “Hopefully, not too long from now, he’ll be able to give a statement about his perception of what happened there,” State police Lt. Brian McDonough, head of detectives for southern Maine, said today. Cumberland County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the home on Dolloff Road at 3 a.m. Sunday and met Linda Dolloff, who collapsed as she met them at the door. She told police there had been an intruder in the house, police said. However, police say they still haven’t pieced together exactly what happened and whether an intruder broke into the home and attacked the couple. Police said they are examining the house for signs of forced entry. “We’re still trying to determine a third party was in the house and find any leads in the house that point in that direction,” McDonough said. Police said the items recovered from the home will be processed by the state police crime lab and that the results of that analysis could shed light on what happened.
