PETA to artist Indiana: EAT vegetarian

PORTLAND -- Artist Robert Indiana isn't too keen on adding the word "vegetarian" to his famous EAT sign that went on public display for the first time in 44 years last month.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals says it has sent a letter to Indiana asking him to add the word to the sign. PETA says the change will move people to make the switch to a vegetarian diet.

Indiana, who lives on Vinalhaven off the Maine coast, jokingly responded that he was thinking of dangling a lobster from the sign, but reckoned that wouldn't go over too well with PETA.

Indiana's EAT sign -- five 300-pound discs, each 6 feet in diameter -- is being showcased on top of the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland as part of an exhibition of Indiana's works.

Remember when people could CHOOSE to eat or not eat meat?  Smoke or not smoke?  Drink or not drink?  Wear a seatbelt or not wear a seatbelt?  Get immunized or not get immunized?  Buy regular bulbs or buy CFL's?  Have their home seized by eminent domain or refuse to give up their home? Buy a fuel efficient car or buy what we really want (and PAY for)?  Agree to be strip searched at the airport not refuse?  PROVE we're legal Americans to get benefits and services?  Remember WORKING for a living or STARVING if you choose to lay around and do nothing?

Those days are GONE FOREVER because we don't pay attention.  As long as we have our nice cars, nice houses, credit, RV's, vacations, jobs we just roll over and let the government do as they please.........Oh, wait.  Now they are taking our houses, cars, RV's and jobs.  Are we AWAKE YET?

Apparently...NOT.
