New Vineyard house destroyed by fire

NEW VINEYARD - A post-and-beam home under construction burned to the ground in a Thursday evening fire off Barker Road in New Vineyard.

Fire Chief Doug Churchill said the owner, Wayne Fletcher, was living alone in the house as the finish work was being done but had left about 45 minutes before motorists reported seeing flames over the trees.

The damage was so extensive the cause of the blaze could not be determined, according to the State Fire Marshal who was at the scene on Friday morning.

Departments from Farmington, New Portland and Temple assisted New Vineyard.
