Man arrested in Saco bank robbery

SACO — A Saco man was arrested shortly after a TD Banknorth branch office was robbed Wednesday morning, police said.

According to police, bank officials said a man went into the branch on Scammon Street in Saco shortly after 10 a.m. and handed a teller a note demanding money. The teller handed over "several thousand dollars," police said, and the man left with the money.

Police arrived minutes later, and based on the description of the suspect, they arrested Scott Jeffrey McKenney, 47, of Spring Street in Saco, who was a few blocks away walking away from the area. Police said they recovered the money reported stolen, but they are not releasing the exact amount.

McKenney was charged with robbery and is being held at York County Jail with bail set at $100,000 cash.

McKenney is expected to be arraigned Thursday or Friday.
