AUGUSTA -- A Maine anti-tax group is threatening to go to court if the state fails to rule on a referendum proposal by today.
Still Fed Up With Taxes wants to repeal a major tax overhaul enacted by the Legislature earlier this year. The group turned in petitions supporting a referendum to repeal the tax law, but state election officials failed to meet the legal deadline to decide whether there are enough signatures to trigger a June vote.
Still Fed Up With Taxes says it'll take legal action if Secretary of State Matt Dunlap has not completed certification of the people's veto petitions by today.
Dunlap said the review process was delayed beyond the Oct. 13 deadline due to a heavy workload associated with this week's referendum ballot.

Its too bad about this. We
Its too bad about this. We need a peoples veto on this "tax reform." I've sat down and read the legislature over and over again, and than applied it to different tax brackets and this will hurt us now but kill us later. Cutting income tax is great but not when they tax everything else instead. When the economy turns around someday and we can afford to bring our families out again we will wish we never passed this bill. I am an independent but I can honestly say that if the democrats are "reforming taxes" you better watch your wallet with your life.
