I agree too but its not just deadbeat dads as the article states. There are deadbeat moms out there too. My fiancee has custody of his kids and the mother has to pay child support, which she is behind on and has been since day 1. Its very frustrating to see that the deadbeats are always assumed to be the dads. There are good dads out there who take the responsibilty of taking care of their children even if the relationship with the mother doesn't work. As for the comment from RHS, there are people who do need assistance from the state who aren't abusing it. I have a friend who gets assistance from the state for her 2 children because the dad has been in and out of jail and doesn't have a job. Is it her or her children's fault? No it isn't, and she isn't going to be on it forever, she's just finished school and even though she's working full time, is looking for a better job so she can stop getting the assistance even if the deadbeat dad is out of the picture. Lumping all welfare recipiants into one group is not fair.

this newspaper and the media should, please, use the term deadbeat PARENTS ... it isn't just dads anymore ... time to keep up with the times as well as the correct terminology ... it's the 21st century now

Not paying child support is neglect. The system is ridiculous, my son is now almost 13 and his dead-beat father paid child support for all of 6 months about 3 years ago. It isn't enough that some guys (and girls) deprive their children of the right to have that parent, and support enforcement is a joke, my son's father drives a big rig making deliveries cross-country, they can't find him?? They ask me if I have any info after I email them to ask them what's going on with my case. He must have a cell phone, a credit card, a driver's license, isn't failing to pay taxes illegal? What the heck, throw them in jail for neglect or enforce the laws with the same motivation as other crimes.

Oh this just pisses me off!!!! STOP USING "DEAD BEAT DADS" it PARENTS. I have three kids, ages 17, 5 & 4. The oldest moved in with me 4 years ago. Up until that time i had been paying child support for him. The first bill i recieed for the State was over $14,000. Thats alot of money when your in high school and washing dishes. But any ways I paid my support until he moved in with me. Well in fact, i paid for nearly 6 months after he moved in. I had to wait for the courts before the state stopped taking my money. It was several months after he moved in with me before the state stopped. I asked the worker if they would get my money back to me for that time he was living with me. i was told i had to take her to court and there was nothing the state could do to get that money back. well we did the court thing and she was may to pay me child support, "what a change". Three year had passed and i did not revcieve a dime frm her. so i had to file witht he state. So heres the rub. I work 40 hours a week. I support my self and two other kids from a different relationship. She works i guess on a as needed basis. She has been living with her boyfriend of 14+ yrs. He owns his own construction business and purchased a house togather with my son's mother. So she does not have the need to work. Well the state dose not look at the other factors when writing the support up. She was made to pay $30wk. Moving ahead to last summer. My oldest decided to he wanted his freedom and moved in with his mother again. the next i know i was hit up by the state for $140wk. by the time he turn 18 this year, I will pay her more in child support then she will make at her part time job as a cashier. My oldest moved out last summer just after my wife left me "not his mother". So comes child support for my two youngest. $100wk. I have them with me 7 days ever two week. thats half of the time. again i am supporting my self and my three kids. My ex on the other hand is living with some guy. the only differents between the two females is that my ex has a good job as a CNA. So do the math. I pay $1000 mo in child support. theres not a whole lot left over for bills......
 
My point is there is alot of Dads out there that are paying and paying more then there share. The mothers is constainly looked at as the victums and this is not the case allot of times. Stop saying "DEAD BEAT DADS" .

i agree with both...but i think they should have someone keep track on how the childsupport is spent. There are far too many hardworking people that are forced to live in trashy conditions because the courts award ridiculously high child support payments. Does it really cost 500 bucks a week for an 8 year old to goto school while mumma sits at home chatting on the puter all day? don't think so.....Obviously there are jerks out there that knowingly dodge taking care of there own and they should be held accountable too as well as the lazy fat baffoon who sits at home all day on the puter.

Once the payers fall behind(say $1,000 for example) post their picture and name on the news. I have a former brother-in law who was WAY behind on his payments for no reason other than he was taking it out on my sister(his ex). His day eventually came when unbeknownst to him he started hitting no a co-worker friend of his ex who was quick to ask him about his child support. His embarrassment might seem harsh, but the message was delivered.

Great idea! i for one got behind 1600.00 in childsupport over an 18 year period so the state took my tax returns.. the money was owed to the state becasue the mother was on welfare and recieving benifits.. I got behind because the state decided to reevalueate my income and decided i had no been paying enough for over 9 months although i was paying what i was ordered,so they back dated the difference of the 9 months.. there are more than just dead beat dads out there in my case the mother has never worked a day in her life she has sat home and collected everything she could while im out busting my ass to pay for my family to live.. so i am one person who feels like the state is double dipping me.. as far as the slot place taking some of the winnings well that is simple way to beat that have you sig other collect....

You need to find many more ways to collect payments from these dead beat dads and moms, because I am tired up supporting the welfare system for people who don't supply the insurance for their children that they are supposed to and they don't pay the other party the child support that is required. I have my own kids to support, I am tired of supporting everyone elses too. If you choose to have children it is YOUR life long responsibility to support them, not mine!
