WATERVILLE — President Obama's Mideast envoy George Mitchell will give a public lecture on conflict resolution while visiting his Maine hometown. The former Senate leader, who brokered the 1999 Northern Ireland peace agreement, is to speak at Colby College in Waterville on Thursday evening. Mitchell has been shuttling between Israeli and Palestinian leaders for months in an attempt to get peace talks between the two sides going again. Talks broke down late last year, but Mitchell has said Obama believes the moment is uniquely ripe for progress in negotiating peace in the region. Mitchell's lecture at Colby will be titled "Conflict Resolution: Reflections on Personal Experiences." He's expected to take questions from the audience. Bookmark/Search this post with: |
