Farmington voters nix police station

FARMINGTON - A referendum vote Tuesday that asked Farmington voters to approve a $2.5 million police station was defeated by less than 140 votes.

The final vote was 1,627 to 1,490.

The project had the backing of the Board of Selectmen and the Budget Committee, and would have provided the 14-member department with a 9,000 square foot building on land the town owns on High Street and Farmington Falls Road. The department currently is in a 1,500 space in the Farmington Municipal Building.
