PORTLAND  — A Maine dog products company is getting into the Valentine's Day spirit with a canine cocktail party that will feature a dog-kissing contest.

Planet Dog is having its annual Valentine's Day party on Thursday night at its company store in Portland.

The party features a kissing contest where the longest, sloppiest owner-to-dog kiss wins an assortment of Planet Dog's products. Last year's contest drew 35 contestants, with the winning kiss lasting more than 24 seconds.

The event is a fundraiser for the Planet Dog Foundation, which provides grants in support of canine service programs.
