"The Dem's (the only party strong enough in this state to stay in power long enough to make a difference) pass tax reform that (would seemingly) shift more taxes to the lower classes, and the Repubs are outraged by it? Something wrong with this picture?"

Hello. This is not just a tax on the lower class. Although I'm glad to see that the Democrats realized a way to get those who don't pay income taxes, to pay their fair share.

I am a wee bit confused.
I was under the impression that the Repubs LOVE to accuse the Dems of wanting to shift the tax burden to the richer. And the Dems HATE the Repubs because they don't care about the "less furtunate." So, here is what we have with this new tax.
The Dem's (the only party strong enough in this state to stay in power long enough to make a difference) pass tax reform that (would seemingly) shift more taxes to the lower classes, and the Repubs are outraged by it? Something wrong with this picture?
Sam the Man, for what it is
Sam the Man, for what it is worth, some business are affected by not knowing what is going on. What I mean by being affected is it has a bearing on the consumer or shopper. If I have to charge the shopper tax then they need to know when they are budgeting for their wedding. Some people plan ahead Sam the Man. THis is not about publicity and if you look at what it will cost you, I think you may be surprised how the taxes were shifted and will cost the taxpayer more than they will save in income. THis income tax reduction will cost the taxpapyer more in taxes in daily life. It will not cost the business out of pocket becasue all we do is pass the cost to the consumer, end result the consumer or end user pays more to the government. Read the bill and understand it first
HUH?Your rant has nothing to
HUH?
Your rant has nothing to do with what I posted.
Republican Legislators filed this "citizens' initiative" and their leader was interviewed and said he was well aware of why the certification was delayed, AND he had no problem with it because there is over 7 months before the vote.
Then he suddenly realized he could get some free publicity so he decided that is would be cool to file a frivolous lawsuit which would cost taxpayers money. He knew nothing would come of this and ONLY did it for the publicity.
I didn't say a single thing about the tax itself, because that is not even what this story is about. It is about the secretary of state verifying signatures. I only wrote about sleazy good for nothing legislators who do not care how much they cost taxpayers as long as it benefits them!
I am growing tired of the
I am growing tired of the Republicans' abuse of the petition and "People's" veto process. They can't get their way in the Legislature so they march over to the Secretary of State to file for a veto. The People's Veto is for the people, not for legislators.
Every tax is unfair to someone. Income taxes are supposedly unfair to businesses, sales taxes are unfair to consumers, property taxes are unfair to property owners, and so on.
There are ways to help people, such as rebates, who might get hit a little harder with this new law, even if that is true, which I'm not sure. I see enough fixed income people eating out and buying lottery tickets ten or twenty dollars at a time.
Hopefully people are smart
Hopefully people are smart enough to vote to repeal the new tax bill. As it stands, an awful lot of fixed income and low income people that do not currently pay any income tax will be hit with a whole slew of new sales taxes on services and such that they can not avoid, like auto repairs.

Oh no! NOW what will the Republican Legislators' initiative (being mischaracterized as a citizens' initiative) do for free publicity?
I guess they will have to come up with some new faux outrage to try to get some coverage about.
... or maybe, unlike the other sorry similar campaigns lately, they could raise money to PAY for their publicity instead of filing frivolous lawsuits and performing other silly shenanigans that cost taxpayers money,
You would think that if they were really worried about taxpayers they would have waited for this result. The vote is not until June 2010 so it was never a case of any real urgency - except for their urgent need for free publicity at our expense.

A fair assessment.Every tax
A fair assessment.
Every tax is unfair to someone, that is not an argument against any particular tax. There are ways to help the people who might be affected.
