Driver dies in Oxford Plains crash

OXFORD — A driver was killed in a crash during a race at Oxford Plains Speedway this evening.

Charles Webster, 38, of Auburn made contact with at least one other car in the race before his vehicle crashed head-on into a concrete outer barrier of the track, said Sgt. Mike Ward of the Oxford Police Department.

The accident happened at 7:45 p.m. Webster was transported to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway, where he was pronounced dead, Ward said. No other drivers were injured.

Ward said he's reviewing evidence gathered at the track to determine a possible cause of the accident.

The accident ended the race, Ward said.
