WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, questioned the government’s methods for distributing H1N1 vaccine on Monday, criticizing the government for not getting the vaccine to high-risk individuals.
Members of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will discuss vaccine shortages today in a hearing scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
Collins, a Republican and ranking member of the Committee, along with Chairman Joe Lieberman sent a letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius expressing their concerns.

Christopher...you get a grip
Christopher...you get a grip on the reality of hundreds of dead people due to this massive F**UP by the Obama administration...this is worse than KATRINA.
It's one thing to babble about some other policy issue, but a lack of vaccine is a life and death issue for vulnerable populations...and then to send it to the gov. of Mass. as a political(Black politics, even) favor is disgraceful and worthy of impeachment.
They treated this like a campaign speech without thinking about the consequences and failed to backstop the estimates...even worse one manufacturer said they called weekly with estimates and problems incurred but the White house didn't react!
Well Commen Cents - Ever
Well Commen Cents - Ever since the nasty, nasty post you wrote calling our first lady a "Gorilla Girl" I haven't paid attention to ANYTHING you have to say about either of the Obamas.
And neither should anyone else.
Wow, please get a grip
Wow, please get a grip CommonCents.
The responsible companies are developing the seasonal flu and h1n1 vaccines as quickly as possible.
Personally, I think people like school teachers should have been in the high risk group and there should be better systems for getting the vaccine out to pregnant women. Oh well.
Ellen in your zeal to bash
Ellen in your zeal to bash Collins, you conveniently forgot that pandemic funding wasn't the problem; it was the OBAMA administration's exaggerated forecast of the amount of vaccine that could be produced by approved manufacturers, and the constant assurances it would arrive on time:
"In July, Obama administration officials said companies could make 80 million to 120 million doses by mid-October. They outlined an aggressive response to the pandemic, spending more than $2 billion to buy 250 million doses of vaccine and promising enough to inoculate every American.
But only about 16.5 million doses have become available so far, putting the administration in an uncomfortable political position regarding what President Obama declared last week to be a national emergency."
"David P. Fidler, a professor of health law at Indiana University, said the government's inability to accurately predict the vaccine doses threatens to undermine its credibility.
"Are we going to see this sort of nationwide impact that's also going to be seared in the nation's mind in the way Katrina was?"
A KATRINA LEGACY FROM OBAMA!!!! Yikes.
"While officials were predicting last week that 50 million doses of vaccine would be available by November and 150 million would be available by December, Lurie was clearly chastened by criticism that earlier estimates had been overly optimistic. On Monday, she would say only that about 10 million more doses will be available this week, with more coming every week after that."
How nice of the DEMS to blame a minority party Senator for their screw-up!
"How the Obama administration handles this public health emergency could be key to its healthcare reform proposal. In a major blunder, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius admitted that of the 80 million to 120 million doses it was promised this summer, just more than 23 million doses have been delivered.
But Sebelius also promised eventually there will be enough flu vaccine for all Americans who need it." US NEWS & WORLD REPORT.
Of course there will! ...
How nice of OBAMA to give his 'bro' the governor of Mass, a load of vaccine as a political favor!

. Senator Collins blocked
.
Senator Collins blocked much needed funding for pandemic flu vaccination manufacture and distribution that had been in the stimulus bill because she claimed that a pandemic had nothing to do with problems in our economy. Without the delay she imposed we would have been weeks ahead in fighting this illness and probably would have had vaccinations available well before the current surge in the number of people effected.

Schools closing and forcing parents to miss work to care for their children, businesses shorthanded and even some closing themselves, shoppers extremely leery of being in crowds and having even LESS money because they have missed time when they or their children have the flu and they do not get paid sick leave ... the list goes on and on.
Of course this flu has a great deal to do with the economy and the delay in distribution of vaccines that Collins actions helped cause is one major factor!
How could she have been so incredibly dumb?
... It really appears that her criticism is just a weak cowardly attempt to divert attention away from her own culpability.
Hypocrisy much Senator Collins?
