City offices closed Monday in Augusta

AUGUSTA - Augusta City Center and most other city offices will be closed Monday, the first of eight planned shutdown days.

The shutdown includes the Augusta Civic Center, general government, and public works.

The days off will not apply to most public safety workers, such as police officers and firefighters, although "nonessential" workers in those departments, as well as chiefs and deputy chiefs, will have shutdown days.

The eight city shutdown days are expected to save about $130,000 for the year. The eight days off will be the equivalent of a 3 percent reduction in annual pay for city employees.
