The National Weather Service issued a coastal flood warning along portions of the southern and central Maine coasts.
The astronomical high tide in Portland Harbor will be 11.5 feet at 11:42 a.m. today. The ocean storm and building waves are expected to bring a storm surge between 1.0 and 1.5 feet to the region. This would bring a storm tide between 12.5 and 13.0 feet to Portland.
A storm tide in this range would be considered in the top 20 tides ever reported to the city and would cause flooding of commercial street and nearby piers.
Some low lying roadways along the beaches or marshes from Portland to Hampton would be temporarily closed due to flooding.
The flood warning will remain in effect until 2 p.m. this afternoon. A coastal flood watch remains in effect tonight through Sunday afternoon.
