AUGUSTA -- Old Fort Western will mark two anniversaries of events impacting Maine history this weekend.
Saturday, Old Fort Western will remember the adoption of the of the U.S. Constitution, particularly the debates over the Constitution’s ratification in Massachusetts, of which Maine was a part in 1789.
The U.S. Constitution was formally adopted Sept. 17, 1789.
Sunday, Old Fort Western will recall the 1775 arrival of Benedict Arnold in Hallowell.
Arnold and his men stayed in Maine while preparing to conquer Canada. Fort officials will compare Arnold’s first-person accounts to a fictional story, “Arundel,” by Kenneth Roberts.
The programs start at 1:30 p.m. each day.
Old Fort Western is open to public from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. every weekend this fall until Columbus Day. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for children ages six to 16, and free for children under six. All Augusta residents are admitted free of charge.

This would be a nice weekend to get the kids and go to Old Fort Western in Augusta. A wonderful way for them to learn about Benedict Arnold how the part Old Fort Western played in his journey to Canada.
