Chelsey Tobias, 19, of Augusta and Fayette, was seriously injured around 5 a.m. today when her car collided head-on with another vehicle in Farmingdale.
Maine State Police Trooper Patrick Munzing said a preliminary investigation indicates Tobias fell asleep while driving. The driver of the other vehicle, Megan Myshrall, 23, of Randolph, suffered a broken leg in the accident.
Munzing said Tobias, who was not wearing a seat belt, is being treated for "severe internal injuries" at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
The accident happened at 5:05 a.m. on Maine Avenue near Sheldon Street.

I find it a bit sad that some people can get on here and bad mouth this poor girl .
The situation is bad enough for Chelsey and her family as well as Megan and our family without people getting on here and being negative.
I guess if the families directly involved in this horrible situation don't have any animosity towards anyone what right does an outsider have?
Both of these girls have a long recovery period ahead of them and it's not going to be easy on any of us but the sentiments of well wishers goes a long way toward this recovery.
To the Tobias family from the Myshrall family, we offer our thoughts and prayers and wish Chelsey a full and speedy recovery and if there is anything we can do for you please let us know.

From Duane Tobias and Family,
We have been worried about Megan. We have not been able to find out any information about her condition, our thoughts and prayers have been going out to her since the beginning of such a horrible event. Our family wants to send out cards and well wishes to Megan and family, but have not been able to find out where to send them. Please contact the State Trooper that responded to the accident, if you wish to give us an address because we do not want yours or our personal information out there on the web. Our prayers are with you.

To Chels, Kim, Duane, Chad, and Alex -
I've missed you guys over the past few months. My heart is with you at this time and always has been regardless of life's changes. Know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. <3
To those that have been so insensitive to a family in crisis a little advice - until you live it... you will never ever understand it... and the things that matter most in life ( like life itself and love ) must never be at the mercy of the things that matter least ( everything else )....

To Chelsey and her family-
Know that prayers are being said for you and your remarkable spark of life. You are a very special young lady with talent and a winning smile for all. We all need to see that smile soon. From your supporters and co-directors of Chizzle Wizzle Iona&Kathleen
I think right now the most
I think right now the most important thing is to have prayers for Chelsey and for Megan. Yes, Megan got to go home, but if anyone reading the story thinks that Chelsey's parents did not check to make sure that Megan was o.k. and speak with her family, then you are sadly mistaken. Duane and Kim's priority is and will remain their daughter, and I have no doubt that Megan's family agrees. Whatever the circumstances of the accident takes a back seat at this time...again the one and only priority at this moment is Chelsey and Megan's well being. If anyone responding on this website has nothing positive to say for the family then please do not post anything. Show some respect. You never want to be the one receiving the phone call or the parents living in ICU right now. I am apalled that my family is seeing anyting posted on this website that is not positive. Chelsey WILL MAKE IT, she WILL SURVIVE!!!! She has more angles than anyone can imagine holding her close right now. And those same angels are standing strong with Kim and Duane.
The family needs your love, support and blessings...please be respectful and only post those thoughts.
We love you so much Chelsey, you keep fighting baby girl. We love you Kim, Duane, Chad and Alex
Thank you from the Williams family
How would someone be able to
How would someone be able to get in contact with the family to send a card or what-not to Chelsey? My parents are wanting to do so, but are not sure how to go about it.
im sure they would appreciate
im sure they would appreciate that, but for the time being i would suggest sending your prayers

I have been with the tobias's
I have been with the tobias's for these last 2 days, and can say that all the prayers and kind words most people are saying(of course there will always be ignorant ones), are helping alot. and of course, my prayers also go to chelsey and her family. To let the people who have helped make this a little bit easier know, she is doing better. keep the prayers coming.

Response from Kim Ross
Response from Kim Ross Chelsey’s Mother
For the past two days I have been sitting in the hospital with my daughter Chelsey. She was in a car accident on Sunday morning. Chelsey is living minute to minute at the moment. Our family and friends have come in and out of the hospital to be with us. Though many people come to visit Chelsey, Duane, Chelsey’s siblings, and I are the only ones that have been into the room to see Chelsey. My heart breaks every time I go into her room and see her lying in that bed. I thought I would die from happiness when I talked to her and she opened her eyes. I thank you for all your thoughts and prayers for our family. It will be a long and difficult road to recovery for Chelsey. We will continue to pray for our daughter and Megan, hoping they both make a full recovery.
Response from Duane Tobias
Response from Duane Tobias Chelsey’s Father
My daughter Chelsey Tobias suffered serious injuries as a result of a car accident. To set the record straight she was wearing a seatbelt, but wearing it incorrectly, the injuries she suffered were due to impact. It has not been determined if she fell asleep or had a medical condition prior to the accident. When we arrived at the hospital our concern was for both individuals, inquires were made about Megan’s health but naturally we are involved with the care of our daughter. Our thoughts and prayers have gone out and continue to go out to her and her family members. I have not known one person to live a perfect life or make every decision correctly, everyone out there making negative comments about seatbelts or my daughter’s actions should stop throwing rocks. Stop polishing your glass houses put your insensitive comments to a good use.
My daughter continues to fight for her life every minute with the love and prayers of her family and friends. Our prayers continue to go out to Megan and her family. For all those people sitting on your computers making negative comments, get up, do something decent (DONATE BLOOD), it was those individuals that took that quality time that helped save my daughter’s life. Thanks to Trooper Patrick Munzing, the Gardner police department, Gardner Rescue, and the one brave motorcyclist who helped save my daughter’s life. It was a miracle she even survived the ambulance ride and we continue to pray for more miracles for her. She is in a fight for her life, please send us and Megan’s family a prayer. Thank you.
No one wakes up in the
No one wakes up in the morning saying "Today I plan on not wearing my seatbelt, I plan on getting in a car accident, or I plan on falling down the stairs!" When we are young we jump into life with gusto and plan on living life to its fullest! That is why it is called youth and we as we grow up, hopefully, we grow wiser and learn lessons from our experiences.
I hope that the people who have made unnecessary comments about fault will recall their youths and the 'incidents' that occurred for them.
My prayers and thoughts go out to both victims...as this was an 'accident' and both Megan and Chelsey deserve and need all of the positive energy to help them heal. Peace and Blessings to all!
Be strong, Chelsey. Feel the
Be strong, Chelsey. Feel the strength and love your family and friends are sending your way and may it give you the power and courage to recover.
Oh what a perfect world this
Oh what a perfect world this would be if we all wore our helmets, fastened our seatbelts and followed all the rules and laws. Especially our young people, who believe they are invincible and nothing bad will ever happen to them and no one else will be affected by their actions. With age comes wisdom, at least we can hope. So God bless those who follow the rules, and the rest of us will pray for those of us who don't. May God watch over all of us when we make mistakes or stupid choices and hold their families close when tragedy happens. After all, I haven't met that perfect person yet.
How wonderful it would be for our policemen, firefighters and EMS personnel to live in that world.
Special thank you to my friend Rob and his partner at Gardiner Ambulance, the police officers, the motorcyclist and everyone who helped my niece, Chelsey. Our family's thoughts and prayers are with Megan and her family and thanks to all who have extended their wishes.

I would not classify this
I would not classify this mornings events as an accident. It was an incident. An incident that involved irrisponsibility that could cost a young lady her life and has injured an innocent mother. I'm glad to see that there is support for the one fighting for her life, but disappointed to see the lack of support for the other victim because she got to go home with minor injuries. Both victims could have been spared of the whole experience if one person had made a decision prior to the incident. People have to remember, when you get behind the wheel, you hold the lives of everyone around you in YOUR hands. Every move you make on the road could cost someone their life even your own. Nobody drives with common sense anymore. If you are tired, get the hell out of the car because the chances of you dozing even for a second can become life threatening for many people. I lost a family member a few years back to falling alseep at the wheel coming home from work one morning and it was around the same time as this mornings incident, maybe earlier. Luckily, no one else was involved, but those were the consequences of his actions and now these are the consequences for this girls actions. My thoughts are with her and her family, but I also extend my thoughts to the lucky victim who got to go home to her 3 1/2 year old!
okay you dont know these
okay you dont know these people so what gives you the right to sit there and say that a "young lady" was no responsible. I went to school with chelsey and she was one of the nicest and most caring person I have met. So if it were your son or daughter it would be completely flipped around and people like you would be bashing your son or daughter and you wouldnt like it now would you. Think about things before you say them. Chelsey may have made a mistake but dont we all and you cant say you havent because nobody is perfect so you can be the first one to cast stones but expect them thrown right back at you.
To Chelseys family chelsey is a great and giving person and she deserves everything and all the help she can get. I will pray for her. I hope she gets better soon.
so the person who posted
so the person who posted this.. your going to tell me, that in your whole life, you have NEVER dozed off behind the wheel? never been tired when you got in a car? i find that VERY hard to believe, it is call an 'accident' for a reason, she did not plan on falling asleep and having to fight for her life.. i just dont get how people can be so ignorant and heartless.. does it make you feel better by bashing her? sad story if so.. and as for the "young lady" comment, i would have to say by that this imature post you made, you are the young one.
To chels and the rest of you tough as nails tobias's. stay strong, shes more of a fighter than i, and probably many others realized, to think someone could go from where she was day one, to where shit is now.. is just amazing. so keep the prayers coming, someone is obviously hearing all of them coming from all over the U.S.
my prayers and thoughts are
my prayers and thoughts are with both families, they both need peoples support, not judgement! accidents happen!!!
I find it funny, nobody has
I find it funny, nobody has any mention for the innocent woman who was hit in all of this. A woman minding her own business was struck by someone who fell asleep. Innocent bistander is now laid up for probably more than a month because of carlessness of another.
Well, despite the fact that
Well, despite the fact that the other woman was not at fault in the accident.. she's still not the one fighting for her life right now.
I'm sure everyone feels bad that another person had to get hurt as well, but I think Chelsey probably needs all the prayers she can get right now.
Again, my best wishes to Chelsey and her family in this difficult time.
Our prayers are with you, and
Our prayers are with you, and your family. We can only hope that everything turns out well for Chelsey.

Dear Tobais,
I hope your family member wins this battle! It must be such a sad and difficult time for you.
I went through having a family members accident shown in the paper and undertsand how upset you are by people's comments.
My advice to you is to not bother reading the paper and the comments.
Some of the people who post here have zero compassion and even less brains.
Many are nice people, but the mean ones can really crush your spirit with their words.
Best wishes,
Phisher
Lots of people get "severe
Lots of people get "severe internal injuries" FROM seatbelts.
No sense laying blame at a time like this. Surely if the kid could take it all back, she would.
I wish her a miraculous recovery. Blessings to her, and to her family.
This was a very unfortunate
This was a very unfortunate event that actually happened to my sister who is fighting for her life as we speak. If all you people have so much time on your hands to make comments about people who have no impact in your life, than i would advise you all to find a hobby and not continue making idiotic comments about someone elses family. You would all feel the same way if it had happened to your little sister. Learn the facts and keep your comments to yourself if it has nothing to do with you or your family.
Sincerly,
The Tobias family and friends.
P.S. - thanks to all the people who sent out their love and prayers! We thank you and god bless!
When are the teens around
When are the teens around here going to learn to be more careful behind the wheel?
It's both frustrating and unfortunate. Many wishes to Chelsey for a speedy recovery!
No Seatbelt? Severe internal
No Seatbelt? Severe internal injuries. One has nothing to do with the other.........NOT!
