Police label Anson death "suspicious"

ANSON — State police are investigating a “suspicious” shooting death of an Anson man.

Everett Cameron, 60, was found dead in his pickup truck around 4 p.m. Saturday, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said. Cameron’s truck had been parked on the side of Town Farm Road, near his home.

“It’s an apparent shooting death,” McCausland said Sunday. “State police are calling it suspicious this morning.”

The body was taken to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta Sunday morning for an autopsy.

“It’s under way now,” McCausland said.

McCausland cautioned that police would not have many details until after the autopsy. However, he said there is no indication that the shooting was self-inflicted.

Detectives, Maine game wardens and Somerset County deputies responded to the shooting scene and were there most of the night. Detectives returned to Anson this morning.

Cameron’s truck was towed to the Maine State Police Crime Lab in Augusta to be examined.

The Town Farm Road is located off from Route 234 in Anson.
